- (b) Rule 17-3 [Ball Striking Flagstick or Attendant] states, in part, “The player’s ball must not strike … c. The flagstick in the hole, unattended, when the stroke has been made on the putting green.” Per Rule 17-1 [Flagstick Attended, Removed or Held Up], if Jordan’s caddie holds up the flagstick, he must hold the flagstick directly over the hole to indicate the position of the hole.
- (d) According to Rule 28 [Ball Unplayable], if the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player must drop a ball in the bunker if he elects to (a) drop a ball behind where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped; or (b) drop a ball within two club-lengths of where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole. Under Rule 28, the only way for Dustin to play his next stroke from outside the bunker is to proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. Rule 20-5 [Making Next Stroke from Where Previous Stroke Made] advises that, on the putting green, the ball to be played must be placed on the putting green.
- (a) Rule 24-2b(i) [Immovable Obstruction: Relief: Through the Green] states, in part, “… the player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. … When the ball is dropped within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the immovable obstruction and is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.”
